For all of you that follow Renee, we have some very sad news to share with you.  On Wednesday, July 5th, she went to be with her savior Jesus Christ.  This was a sudden and totally unexpected event.  Her friends and family are mourning her sudden loss.  We know that Renee loved to share her life with all of you here on Sewn with Grace.  She loved to hear from you and create with you.  So many of you were like part of her family and we felt it was important to share this development with you.

Please see the following link for the arrangements:

Thank you for all the love and joy that you have brought to her over all the years.

With sadness,
The Lange Family

Friday Happenings

I have been on an interesting journey since the last time I blogged.  On May 1 I fell on the basement stairs and broke my ankle.  Since then all sewing has stopped and I have been knitting my way through surgery and recovery.  It wasn't until this week that I started playing with my sewing machine again but can only do it for short intervals of time.  I have a long way to go till I'm literally back on my feet again.  I am thankful for the prayers and support of so many of you.

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." Psalm 46:1

Saturday Recap

It's snowing outside.  I keep trying to remember that we didn't have a hard winter so if it snows a bit in March it's fine.  I don't feel like it's fine.  On the upside, it allows me to get a lot done.  I pulled out a very old work in progress.  Maybe this year I'll get that Chubby Chicks quilt done.  Pattern by Black Mountain Quilts.  I've got 48 chicken legs to embroider, which I believe is what kept me from finishing this all these years.  I also finished the next two blocks in the #happyflowerqal.  I'm going to have to tone it down on the pink or I'm not going to have enough variety in the quilt.  Lastly, I made the next round of blocks for the Make-A-Wish qal (see previous post).  All in all, a very productive week.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Saturday Recap

What a whirlwind of a week I had.  Due to the high winds we lost our power for over 24 hours.  My daughter got very sick and we spent two days at the doctors office.  She is slowly on the mend.  I did get this quilt top pieced.  The pattern is "Spring has Sprung" by Pamela Morgan and can be found in the current issue of Quickly Quilting by Fons & Porter.  It came together quickly and it was fun using fabrics from my scrap bin.  I had planned on backing it with the vintage sheet in the first photo but then found out a fellow blogger had been looking for this sheet to make curtains for her home.  I can easily back this quilt with something else so the sheet is happily on its way to her.  I finished the first two blocks in the Happy Flower Quilt along hosted by Kristyne of Pretty By Hand, Melissa of Oh How Sweet Co. and Wynn of Zakkaart.  This is going to be such a fun quilt along and I'm looking forward to making the next blocks.  My sweet friend, Tina, of Emily Ann's Kloset sent me this darling cross stitch.  I just love it and how about that scalloped hoop?!  I hope you all had a good week and are enjoying the weekend.  It's sunny today but terribly cold.  I'm thankful for the sunshine!

Friday Recap

I was thinking about my blog today and just how poorly neglected she is.  In the very beginning, back in 2009, I blogged every day.  I don't know what I was thinking because I knew that it would be hard  to sustain.  With the rise of Instagram, blogging seems to be becoming less and less of a thing. Why take the time to blog when you can instantly show things and talk to friends on your phone?  Today I am longing for those simpler times and I thought I would set a goal of blogging on Fridays to show some of the things that I've been working on during the week, or things I may have shown on IG.

The first two photos are skeins of yarn dyed be me.  I have been interested in trying this for quite some time.  I now truly appreciate all the indie dyers I purchase yarn from.  It is not as easy as it looks.  I do love the process and surprise of how the finished skein looks.  I have a couple of blocks of the month I'm working on.  These are from Fig Tree Quilts Nantucket Mystery Quilt.  It's so fun to get a little bundle of fabric and pattern to make blocks each month.  I've been knitting up a storm.  I loved making this ombre' shawl.  The pattern is the Everyday Shawl by Jenny Faifel.  I think it would be fun knit up in yarn left over from other projects.

Recently I purchased these tulips from my local market.  It may be cold and grey outside, but inside my $7 tulips remind me that spring is really coming...right?  Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Flower Quilts Blog Hop and Giveaway!

Today is my stop on the Happy Flower Quilts blog hop hosted by Zakka Workshop celebrating one of the most anticipated books in the quilting world, "Happy Flower Quilts" by Atsuko Matsuyama.  Many of us have had the Chinese translation for years and about flipped when we found out it was going to be published by Zakka Workshop in English.

I have loved Atsuko Matsuyama's body of work for many years.  As a Japanese quilter and fabric designer, her fabric and designs have inspired my own sewing and quilting and made me want to be better at my craft.   I was also thrilled to discover that one of my favorite bloggers and designers, Kristyne Czuperyk from Pretty By Hand, is one of the technical editors for the English edition.

I had great fun making the "Flowers and Birds Baby Quilt".  The fabric I chose is the soon to be released "Old New 30's Collection" and "Dots and Gingham" made and provided by Lecien Corporation.  As a World Ambassador for Lecien I have the wonderful opportunity of working with many of their fabrics and this line did not disappoint, it is gorgeous and perfect for this project!  The pattern incorporated both applique and embroidery.  I used Lecien Cosmo embroidery floss.

The book was an absolute joy to work with!  The instructions are clear with detailed photos and good explanations of the techniques used for each project.  Pattern sheets are provided for all of the various projects which include quilts, bags, pouches, pin cushions, sewing kits and more.

Zakka Workshop is generously giving away a copy of Happy Flower Quilts by Atsuko Matsuyama, at each stop on the blog tour.  The giveaway is open world wide.  To enter leave a comment on this post and a winner will be chosen on the last day of the blog hop, Wednesday, March 1.

Please visit the other blogs and IG for awesome projects and lots of eye candy!

After the blog hop there will be a Quilt Along on Instagram (#happyflowerqal) featuring the Happy Flower Quilt Sampler, featured on the book cover. The quilt along will be hosted by Kristyne (@prettybyhand), Wynn (@zakkaart), and Melissa (@ohhowsweetco). It will kick off on March 6th.  We hope you join in on the fun!
