Row Along ~ Row One
Row one of Lori's Row Along is complete. I love the mystery part of this quilt, not knowing what it will look like in the end and not really knowing what the fabrics will look like together. I adore the scrappy nature of this quilt and I'm really liking how the fabrics look in this row. I would've never put these fabrics together if I wasn't making this quilt, so I'm learning a lot in the process about color, pattern and scale. The aqua blue fabric with the little white flower with a red center is an actual vintage feed sack. I don't know if I can stand to wait two weeks for the next row!

Bee in My Bonnet Row Along
I had so much fun making my Great Granny Quilt, through the Great Granny Along that was hosted by Lori Holt. When I read that Lori is doing another quilt along, I knew I would jump right in. This time she's hosting a row along. Lori will be posting a tutorial every two weeks, starting this week, and we will make the quilt row by row through spring.
This is going to be a scrap quilt. We are encouraged to use our stash, which I love. Lori tells how she chose her fabrics and how much we will need. I started pulling fabric right away. My stash tends to be more soft colors and I was a bit unsure of myself at first. I choose lavender over red as red seemed a bit harsh with the other muted tones. I then cut the 3" squares as directed and will await this weeks tutorial.
I love that this is a beginner quilt and I urge you to give it a try with me. I can keep up with one row every couple of weeks. Lori's tutorials are very thorough and filled with pictures. I've gathered the fabric and found it very helpful to photograph and see what I might add. Looks like I need more lavender fabric, something I don't usually work with. I may have to go shopping, unless someone wants to make a trade with me. I hope you join in on the fun, c'mon let's row along with Lori!

Raising Up Rubies
One of my favorite blogs is Raising Up Rubies. Jaime loves the Lord and loves to make cute things. She shares how to make her adorable creations on her blog. Her craft room alone is more eye candy than I can take in at one setting. Recently Jaime opened an Etsy shop and I was ever so eager to do some shopping.
Jaime's attention to detail is fantastic. Her use of color, texture and pattern just sings to me.
Each item came individually wrapped. It felt like Christmas morning and I was a child again opening the gifts from my stocking. Do you see the ruler the tape is rolled on? Adorable!
Vintage trims rolled on to vintage spools and clothespins. I will have a hard time removing them to craft with, they are just so pretty!
I had my signature tidal wave nightmare last night. It's the one I get when life is overwhelming and I can't seem to get a handle on things. I'm going to use one of the sparkly clothespins to clip the sweet confetti clouds (made by Jaime's daughters) on to the visor of my car. This will remind me that I have an awesome God in heaven who is seated on the throne. He is more than able to manage every aspect of my life from the upcoming house selling, to relocation and to ever after. Thank you, Jaime for the reminder and for the joy a package in the mail can bring to another. Blessings today!

Great Granny Quilt
Yesterday my Great Granny Quilt came back from being quilted. Oh my, Mary did a wonderful job of quilting it.
I quickly put the binding on so that I could snap some pictures for you. I used the left over squares on the back of the quilt.
Thank you, Lori, for hosting such a great quilt-a-long. I will treasure this always!

I am always on the look out for pretty or quirky vintage linens. Often times they sell for hardly anything. They remind me of just how creative women through the ages have been. Over the weekend I picked up this dainty tea towel at our barn sale. I would say she falls into the quirky and a bit risque category. She measures approximately four inches from the tip of her shoe to the tip of her ribboned hand. A sheer hankie was used for her nightie. I do not know what her top is stuffed with but it could be buttons made from the red fabric and then covered in the sheer hankie. The applique and embroidery stitches are exquisite. Part of my collection also includes the hankie with the baby. The bonnet and the dress attach to the little doll and the skirt forms the corner of the hankie. Isn't it amazing? I could use a lesson in patience from the hands that stitched these pieces!

Candied Flower Sugar 2012
I thought about sending Lecien an email letting them know that they single handedly may ruin my "make do" pledge and force me to reconsider my fabric lockdown and that they need to immediately recall this fabric. I then realized that it wouldn't be fair to the rest of you who have the ability to control yourself when purchasing fabric. So instead of the email, I purchased one yard each of the top right-hand corner and the bottom right-hand corner and that's all I have to say on this subject.

You're Coming With Me
Source: misshappy.ro via Renee on Pinterest
There has been so much going on here in the past couple of weeks that I haven't been able to sit long enough to write a proper post and fill you in. My husband has taken a new job, one that is veering him off his normal path and on to something new. It will require us to be apart for an extended time period but in the end we will all be together and moved to a new city about and hour and a half from where we currently live. I apologize for being so vague, but I'm not sure what is proper to share online. I am currently in the process of getting the house ready to put on the market. This week I will participate in a very large barn sale at the farm where we host weddings. My employer is also embarking on a new adventure. After this September we will no longer be hosting weddings at the farm. The farm is officially up for sale. They have decided to focus on their new restaurant and will be moving closer to it. We have five weddings in September and then we will be shutting down our business. I will be updating you as we venture down this new path. I could'nt do it without you. Your support and encouragement have been such a blessing and I plan on taking you with me every step of the way. In the meantime, plan on lots more sewing and quilting. I'm thinking maybe it's time to make some inventory and look for a place to sell my creations in my new hometown. Time to take a deep breath, grab your hand and go...

Salt & Pepper
I found a little metal shelf on my recent vintage outing.
I placed a few of my favorite shaker sets on it.
All those sweet little faces make me smile.
Happy Monday, friends!

I'm working on a fun quilt for a special couple. This pattern came from Paisley Pear Quilts and is fun and quick to make. I don't get to work with batiks very often so I'm enjoying all the fun pretty colors. Have a wonderful Wednesday, friends!

A Bit of Shopping
I indulged in a little shopping recently. I've been very careful since January with any sewing related purchases. I visited Trish's etsy shop for the "Fly A Kite" charm packs and she so graciously sent me some fabric to go with it. Is is not the sweetest prints? I found the cute Japanese fabric with the teacups and mice at Superbuzzy, and wanted to give their perle cotton a try. I must tell you, these two books are just fabulous. I highly recommend them. I believe that "Sunday Morning Quilts" may have altered forever the way I look at scraps and "A Passion for Quilting" is equally as inspiring. Have you made any fun purchases lately?
