Saturday Recap

It's snowing outside.  I keep trying to remember that we didn't have a hard winter so if it snows a bit in March it's fine.  I don't feel like it's fine.  On the upside, it allows me to get a lot done.  I pulled out a very old work in progress.  Maybe this year I'll get that Chubby Chicks quilt done.  Pattern by Black Mountain Quilts.  I've got 48 chicken legs to embroider, which I believe is what kept me from finishing this all these years.  I also finished the next two blocks in the #happyflowerqal.  I'm going to have to tone it down on the pink or I'm not going to have enough variety in the quilt.  Lastly, I made the next round of blocks for the Make-A-Wish qal (see previous post).  All in all, a very productive week.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Saturday Recap

What a whirlwind of a week I had.  Due to the high winds we lost our power for over 24 hours.  My daughter got very sick and we spent two days at the doctors office.  She is slowly on the mend.  I did get this quilt top pieced.  The pattern is "Spring has Sprung" by Pamela Morgan and can be found in the current issue of Quickly Quilting by Fons & Porter.  It came together quickly and it was fun using fabrics from my scrap bin.  I had planned on backing it with the vintage sheet in the first photo but then found out a fellow blogger had been looking for this sheet to make curtains for her home.  I can easily back this quilt with something else so the sheet is happily on its way to her.  I finished the first two blocks in the Happy Flower Quilt along hosted by Kristyne of Pretty By Hand, Melissa of Oh How Sweet Co. and Wynn of Zakkaart.  This is going to be such a fun quilt along and I'm looking forward to making the next blocks.  My sweet friend, Tina, of Emily Ann's Kloset sent me this darling cross stitch.  I just love it and how about that scalloped hoop?!  I hope you all had a good week and are enjoying the weekend.  It's sunny today but terribly cold.  I'm thankful for the sunshine!

Our Patchwork Quilt Along benefits Make-A-Wish. This fantastic organization grants the wishes of children diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. Make-A-Wish believes a wish experience can be a game-changer. Granted wishes help children feel stronger, more energetic, and more willing to face their medical battle, and for many the wish marks a turning point in the fight against their illnesses!

This year, Fat Quarter Shop and Moda Fabrics will match up to $20,000 of donations raised!  So help us reach that goal!

The Patchwork quilt blocks are FREE to download on the 15th of every month starting in January 2017.  We only ask a suggested donation of $5 to our Make-A-Wish campaign for each time you download the patterns.

All of the details for the quilt along can be found on the Fatquarter Shop blog, the Jolly Jabber.  For a limited time a quilt kit is being offered by Moda Fabrics using Bonnie & Camille Basics Collection and can be purchased here and a backing kit purchased here.  Full fabric requirements are provided if you decide to use your own fabric.  The Fatquarter Shop has provided a YouTube video for the first block and can be viewed here.

Block #1 is called Souvenir of Friendship. Download your free pattern today, and be sure to donate to Make-A-Wish!

*Psst! The designers of the quilt's fabrics - Bonnie & Camille - are sewing along, too! Fun!

Sweetness

It's hard to believe that we are in our last week of October.  Before I know it, I'll be thinking about Thanksgiving and all the things I hope to make for Christmas.  Today it's rainy and cold and I have a fire going and a pumpkin spice candle lit.  There is butter on the counter, softening, for cookie making and I'm about to bind a quilt.  This is one of my favorite kind of days.

I finished a quilt last week and delivered it to a sweet girl who graduated from high school this past spring.  The colors of the quilt just speak to me.  As I prepared to take photos of the quilt I realized that the colors speak for most of what I'm making right now.   I love the backing fabric on the quilt.  It is Kaffe Fasset's Button Flowers.  The colors really tie in well with all the sixteen patch blocks.   Currently I am knitting a mystery shawl by Stephen West #westknitskal2016 where instructions come by email weekly.  The pattern can be found on Ravelry.  It's really fun to knit and I like the colors I chose.  Cream sprinkles, pink, aqua and lavender look like a birthday party to me.

The Fatquartershop had their First Blush quilt along and they recently sent the book to me.  It's a lovely book and an equally lovely quilt.  The First Blush fabric is so pretty.  The fabric is due out any day now if you'd like to make the quilt.

Time to get baking!  Have a wonderful day!

Pretty Playtime Quilt Along

Pretty Playtime Quilts book by Elea Lutz by janum on Etsy

Good morning friends!  One of my very favorite designers,  Elea Lutz, for Penny Rose Fabrics has recently released her first book called Pretty Playtime Quilts.  For 16 weeks, the Fat Quarter Shop is hosting a blog tour featuring a new block each week from the Garden Fairy sampler quilt, found in the book and featuring her latest fabric collection, Strawberry Biscuit.  This delightful book has six patterns in addition to the fifteen block patterns for the Garden Fairy Sampler quilt.  I am hoping to make every pattern in the book!

This week is my turn on the quilt along and I sewed a block that is very near and dear to my heart, the bowtie block.  My husband wears a bowtie every day to work and I had fun matching up some of his bowties to Elea's gorgeous fabric! This block is super easy to make and is just so lovely when completed.  I would love to work my way through my scrap bin and make a whole quilt with this block!

Thank you for stopping by today.  Have a great start to your week!  Be sure to visit the blogs below for pictures of their gorgeous Garden Fairy Sampler blocks!

Cozy Cottage Calendar Celebration!

Today I'm excited to be part of a group of bloggers, celebrating Lori Holt of Bee in my Bonnet, new limited edition calendar.   This twelve month calendar features beautiful photos of Lori's gorgeous home and includes her pattern for a house block in two sizes, plus a mini quilt and pillow.

I used the eight inch block to make her Cozy Cottage pillow.  Christmas has been on my mind so I decided to pull out some of my favorite Tilda fabrics for a Christmas Cottage pillow.  I couldn't stop there, I made the super cute four inch block into an ornament with Santa peering out the window!  As ever, Lori's instructions are clear and easy and make the whole process of creating so fun!

The Fatquarter Shop is hosting the celebration, go here for a list of participating bloggers and for a look at their fabulous creations.  While you're there, don't forget to purchase the calendar before they're sold out.  This would make a great present for the quilter in your life!
