Saturday Recap

What a whirlwind of a week I had.  Due to the high winds we lost our power for over 24 hours.  My daughter got very sick and we spent two days at the doctors office.  She is slowly on the mend.  I did get this quilt top pieced.  The pattern is "Spring has Sprung" by Pamela Morgan and can be found in the current issue of Quickly Quilting by Fons & Porter.  It came together quickly and it was fun using fabrics from my scrap bin.  I had planned on backing it with the vintage sheet in the first photo but then found out a fellow blogger had been looking for this sheet to make curtains for her home.  I can easily back this quilt with something else so the sheet is happily on its way to her.  I finished the first two blocks in the Happy Flower Quilt along hosted by Kristyne of Pretty By Hand, Melissa of Oh How Sweet Co. and Wynn of Zakkaart.  This is going to be such a fun quilt along and I'm looking forward to making the next blocks.  My sweet friend, Tina, of Emily Ann's Kloset sent me this darling cross stitch.  I just love it and how about that scalloped hoop?!  I hope you all had a good week and are enjoying the weekend.  It's sunny today but terribly cold.  I'm thankful for the sunshine!

The Colors of Summer

Summer to me is all about the red, white and blue.  It brings to mind images of sand and sun, small town parades, ice cream and baseball.  One of my very favorite fabric lines is Cottage Romance by Maywood Studios.  The line debuted a few years ago and I bought a lot of it.  I found the fabric and pattern, the other day,  for the quilt in the first photo and quickly set out to make it.  I knew it would look great hanging next to it's sister quilt which covers the dining room table.

The rest of the house got some patriotic touches too.  My Mom made the cross stitch for me awhile back and it found it's place on the wall across from the entry way church pew.  I love walking by and seeing this everyday.  The mini quilt above the pew was a gift from Amy of A Quilting Sheep.  The quilt ties in so nicely with the pillows.

In addition to quilting I have been knitting up a storm.  This lace shawlette is for my Mom-in-love, a belated birthday gift.  Lace is not my favorite to knit but I certainly like the outcome.  I hope you are having a lovely week!

It's August

Gift from my Mom (so true)

The month of August, for me, is a month of feeling out of sorts.  Whenever something can't be explained, or something isn't right or momentary blues occur my answer is always, "It's August."  Everyday seems to be a day of decisions.  Do we hit the back to school stuff at Target before the good folders are gone or do we go to the beach?  Do we sort through old clothes to make room for new fall clothes or do we pack a picnic and head out into the sunshine?

The weather can't seem to decide what it wants to do either.  Sunny and warm? or overcast and cool?  The garden starts to let me know that it's on it's way out.  Once the Black-eyes Susans are in full bloom, I know what lies ahead.  When all watering doesn't perk up the flowers much and the colors seem to not be as bright I know that change is on the horizon.  Each year in August I feel melancholy and I'm wondering today, am I the only one?
