It's August

Gift from my Mom (so true)

The month of August, for me, is a month of feeling out of sorts.  Whenever something can't be explained, or something isn't right or momentary blues occur my answer is always, "It's August."  Everyday seems to be a day of decisions.  Do we hit the back to school stuff at Target before the good folders are gone or do we go to the beach?  Do we sort through old clothes to make room for new fall clothes or do we pack a picnic and head out into the sunshine?

Gift from my Mom for someday, future spouses (love)

The weather can't seem to decide what it wants to do either.  Sunny and warm? or overcast and cool?  The garden starts to let me know that it's on it's way out.  Once the Black-eyes Susans are in full bloom, I know what lies ahead.  When all watering doesn't perk up the flowers much and the colors seem to not be as bright I know that change is on the horizon.  Each year in August I feel melancholy and I'm wondering today, am I the only one?

It's August,

  1. No Renee, You aren't the only one. I feel the same way. Like it's the last straggling remnant of summer. Bleh. Not so crazy about it myself.

  2. That's it...I always thought it was my birthday but no it's the fact that its the end of summer and the beginning of school. Things are ending in the garden, oppressive heat, horrible hay fever, back to schedule...just yuck oh and by the way...Happy Birthday...never a fun month for me? Maybe things will change? Glad to know I am not the only one. Renee

  3. Renee, i think we really don't want to see Summer leave . . .
I wanted to comment on your Aug.6 post of the red+aqua block-so so cute! I want to make a quilt of those colors+maybe that block too!
Quilting away in Montana! Thanks, always for sharing!

  4. Oh Renee, I feel the same way. I've just been in a bummer mood, and I wondered if it was from the heat. It does make me feel draggy. Hopefully things will lighten up in a few weeks.

  5. August makes me feel rushed. I hope the month starts feeling better for you. :)

  6. Ohhhh no, you're not the only one! :)

I always feel like such a Debbie-Downer in August. whine whine whine about the weather, the garden, on and on . . . .I think August just says "enough, already, bring on Autumn!"

  7. Oh wow! It looks like we are all in the same boat. Even though I am not crazy about the hot weather, I do like the lazy days of summer. Every August I am made aware of how fast time flys. I don't have kids going back to school, but the grandkids are all talking about it. School starts so early now. I loved it when it started the day after Labor Day.

  8. When August rolls around I begin to feel we are on the downward slide to winter. There is talk of the kids going back to school in Indiana next week and the state fair starts the end of the month and runs through Labor Day and then the kids go back to school here. Additionaly, our temperatures are sliding downward.

I could go on, but enough to say summer goes way too fast for me and winter goes on way too long. However, as my son says: "It is what it is."

In spite of it all you are loved by our Father and all is well. Have a good day Rene.

  9. Oh my friend..don't you just love the season's of life? So happy we have is sad to see Summer go but doing a happy dance for Miss Autumn!

  10. "It's August...", said Eyeore sadly...
    You crack me up. :)

  11. Wanted to let you know, too, I am starting up "Friday Pretties" again in September. :) Love to have you join me!

  12. Just returned from a family wedding and catching up with your blog. August is a hard month for me. My precious daughter went home to the Lord on aug 26, 1998 at the age of 21. So August brings times of joy mingled with times of missing my love one/sorrow.
