Summer Stitching

When the heat cranks up outside, the sewing cranks up inside!  I really need to be outside in the flowers pulling weeds but it's just too hot.  I made the little star quilt from a kit I purchased from Brenda.  I just love it!  The Mouse House Doll quilt is from Amy's book, Sweetly Stitched Handmades.  When you "open" the door you discover little mice.  It was so fun to make!  The flowers are going bonkers in the this humidity and the colors are so vibrant this year.  Hopefully the colors will drown out the surrounding weeds!  Have a lovely day!

Thursday

Today I sent off my first black and white baby quilt.  I loved working on it because one, it is for a very special couple who is expecting their first child soon and two, because the colors and fabrics are so different from my usual quilting projects.  I used a lot of low volume fabrics which was very fun!  Low volume fabrics are ones that "read" look mostly white but have a small bit of color in them. The color could be any but for this it was black.  The result is an almost grey tone in certain areas due to the small scale print used. The border is a fun newspaper print fabric that gives it a modern feel. The pattern for the quilt was found in this book.  It was really a joy to make!

I'm going to be attending my first sewing retreat in September.  I needed to find one that I could drive to, so I could keep the costs down.  This one is in North Carolina and I'm super excited to be attending.  We made name tags for each other and I just received mine.  It has the cutest foundation pieced beach umbrella!  Jane sent along some other fun goodies including the darling pouch.  I can't wait to go!  Have a wonderful day!
