Strips of Promise

It seems that the buzz in blogland is Christmas, it's impending arrival, and the crunch to get gifts made.  This year I'm planning on a huge king-size Christmas quilt for my husband and I.  I spent the better part of yesterday cutting many, many strips for my first log cabin quilt.

There is something about the feel of fabric in your hands during the quilt making process.  It feels like hope and promise to me.  There is an excitment in a swatch of fabric.  The possibilities are endless.  The strips of fabric look like a work of art to me, all lined up on the vintage drying rack, ready to go.

The last Christmas quilt I made was this snowball quilt.  I have collected Christmas novelty fabric for years and wanted something colorful and fun for the family room.  This quilt is loved so much that it stays out all year long.

I am drawn to retro Christmas images.  They remind me of being little again and how much I've always enjoyed the Christmas season.  There is talk of snow here in Michigan today.  The air is crisp and cold.  Good quilting weather!

I am joining Joyce at I love pretty little things for Friday Pretties and Dayle at A collection of this and that for the Airing of the Quilts.  Happy Friday everyone!

Inspired Ideas

If you're looking for a way to get your creative juices flowing for the Christmas season, you need look no farther than Inspire Ideas.  Amy Powers, of Inspire Co. is the brains behind this wonderful online magazine.  Head on over to her blog to look at the online magazine for FREE!

While you're paging through the most sublime photos, look for this little mouse.  Amy was asking readers awhile back to send pictures of their favorite Christmas ornaments and my sweet little mouse made it into the magazine.  I've had this mouse since I was a wee bit of a thing.  So fun!

In My Happy Place

Little by little my Red Rose Farm quilt is coming along.  I've been auditioning sashing fabric and measuring and trimming and playing with the arrangement.

I just love this fabric.  I have tried to utilize as much of the fat quarter bundle as possible and I do believe that when this quilt is all finished, I will only have tiny pieces left.  I love that!

The kitchen chorus (as I like to call them) really make the quilt for me.  I know that whenever I see this quilt hanging in my kitchen, I'm going to smile.

My machine has been in the shop for almost two weeks.  I needed to sew terribly so I went and found the machine we bought for our daughter when she was in elementary school (she's in highschool now).  It sounds like a truck is coming through the house when I use it but it sews a straight, quarter inch seam and that's all that matters to me.

Sweet blessings,

In the Bag

I am loving the great response to the giveaway.  Thank you for all your wonderful comments.  There is still plenty of time to sign up, just scroll down to the post below.  I want to show you a bag I finished over the weekend.  It's the "Field Bag & Tote" by Amy Butler.

I must say, Amy Butler's patterns are a challenge.  There is so much interfacing and fusible this-or-that, that my needle started wobbling on several occassions.  I ended up having to use a denimn needle to do the top stitching around the bag.  It is a large bag with four interior pockets.  I added the covered buttons for a little pizazz.  I am pleased with the results, but also pleased to have it DONE!  What are you working on today?

Anniversary Giveaway!

This post marks my one year blogiversary and the 316 post.  Wow!  I've certainly had alot to say since that first attempt at blogging.  In celebration, I'm giving away my entire scrap stash.  Yes, it's true, I can hardly believe it myself.  You will find pinks, blues, yellows, greens, cream, white, etc.  A virtual garden will arrive at your house.  I could stop there, but why?  You will also receive...

the animated kitchenware transfers (here) that so many of you inquired about and a kitchen towel for you to stitch on.  I'm currently using my transfers in a quilt that I hope to share with you very soon.  For a wonderful scrap quilt, head over to Pleasant Home.  Jodi has made a beautiful quilt with her scraps and is kind enough to share the how-to's with us.

To enter, leave a comment on this post.  I would love it if you would follow me, but that is not a requirement.  I will leave the giveaway open until Friday at midnight and will announce the winner on Saturday.

I am so blessed by the friends that I have made through blogging.  I have learned so much through all of you.  I have grown as a quilter/crafter and as a person.  I hope that you have enjoyed your time here and I thank you for all your supportive comments.  The Lord-willing, I will continue to share life on my end with you for as long as I'm able.

Sunday Scripture

"But do not forget this one thing, dear friends:
With the Lord a day is like a thousand years,
and a thousand years is like a day.
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise,
as some undertand slowness.
He is patient with you, not wanting anyone
to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."
2 Peter 3:8&9

Be My Guest...

Awhile back I deleted my follower button.  I was becoming too overly concerned with numbers and decided to remove it and focus on just being me.  Over the last few weeks I have been approached by different blogs for various reasons and it appears that not having the button is holding me back in the ways I want to share with you and the direction I would like the blog to go.  With that being said, I am putting my follower button back up and hope that you would be my guest and follow me and continue to leave your wonderful comments as we journey through blogland together!

If you followed me before, you should still be there.  Click the follower button and if you already followed it will tell you so.  Have a blessed day dear friends!

Still Here

Red Rose Farm Blocks

Thank you for all your concern and prayers.  The tornado sirens went off and my husband and I waited out our time in the basement, but nothing touched down, thank you Lord!  It is rare that we get a tornado in our part of southwest Michigan.

Current Knitting Project

My yard looks exactly like it did on Monday, before the leaf guy came.  Honestly, I think I got all of the neighbors leaves in my yard too.  I'm thinking the leaf guy knew what the weather forecast was, hmm...

What I'm Reading

I did manage to get some errands done after the "all clear" alert.  Most of the day I spent inside enjoying all of the above.  I made a mean pot of shrimp risotto and watched the food network.  A good, safe day all around.

Tuesday Troubles

Today the weather report states 100% winds, tornado watch, and severe thunderstorms.  We are encouraged to stock up on supplies for three days.   Schools are closing all around us.  I can't believe the leaf guy showed up yesterday...

Monday's Thoughts

It was my turn to host my daughter's Bible study group last night.  I finished my fall table topper over the weekend and it made for a pretty table.  I was not completely happy with the way it turned out so I'm just showing you a little pumpkin corner.

What would a fall gathering be without some take-home candy bags?  Every girl needs a little chocolate now and then!

I found these napkins at Hobby Lobby.  What a great reminder as we start this week out together dear blogger friends!

Be blessed,

Sunday Scripture

"The Lord your God is with you,
he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing."

Change is in the Air

The winds of fall have stepped up their urgency to shake all the leaves to the ground.  Every morning I awake to a thicker carpet. Change is in the air.  It's time to bring in the remaining garden ornaments, put the last bulbs into the earth, ready ourselves for colder weather.  It's now dark at 7:30pm and soon it will be time to turn the clocks back so that we can grasp a bit of daylight alittle longer.  Today it's raining and the possibilities for spending the day are endless.  Should I bake?  Should I sew?  Should I read? Should I... What will we do with the gift of a another day?
