Great Granny Twist Blog Hop

Today is my turn on the Great Granny Twist Blog hop hosted by the Fatquarter Shop and Lori Holt of Bee In My Bonnet.  Check out the Fatquarter shop video here to see how they made the quilt above.

We were asked to take a project from Lori's book Great Granny Squared and put a new twist on it.  I love a good challenge!

I was humming Christmas carols when I began playing around with my design.  I ended up combining two elements from the book.  I made four blocks from the Great Granny quilt pattern on page four and topped them with a bow from the Great Granny Quilt Label on page ten.  It was a lot of fun!  The fabrics used in the wallhanging are from RJR Fabrics "White Christmas".

I have made many of Lori's patterns and have participated in her fun quilt alongs.  The quilt above was from a quilt along Lori hosted a while back.  The bow on the basket is the bow on the presents. This quilt is not only about crochet, but I use it at Easter time for decoration as well.  The yarn balls remind me of eggs!

I used part of the Great Granny block, the baby block, to make this sweet little quilt.  It was one of the first ones I ever hand quilted.

Cozy Cottage Calendar Celebration!

Today I'm excited to be part of a group of bloggers, celebrating Lori Holt of Bee in my Bonnet, new limited edition calendar.   This twelve month calendar features beautiful photos of Lori's gorgeous home and includes her pattern for a house block in two sizes, plus a mini quilt and pillow.

I used the eight inch block to make her Cozy Cottage pillow.  Christmas has been on my mind so I decided to pull out some of my favorite Tilda fabrics for a Christmas Cottage pillow.  I couldn't stop there, I made the super cute four inch block into an ornament with Santa peering out the window!  As ever, Lori's instructions are clear and easy and make the whole process of creating so fun!

Patriot Flower Sugar

Recently I became part of Lecien Corporations new Flower Sugar World Ambassador program.  I have joined a group of designers, around the globe, who get to sew with the new Flower Sugar fabric before it's released to the public.  The first collection is Flower Sugar Fall 2015 which will be unveiled next week at the International Quilt Market in Houston, Texas and will be in stores in May 2016.

I have long wanted to make a patriot shabby chic quilt to go with my style and decor in my home. The red, white and blues from Flower Sugar fit that description perfectly.  The pattern I used for the quilt is "Just Pruned" by Brenda Ratliff, owner of Pink Castle Fabrics. The pattern first debuted in Issue 7 of Quilt Now magazine.  The pillow was made using the pattern, "Patriotic Pillow" from the Summer 2015 issue of Easy Quilts magazine.

I enjoyed every minute of sewing with this gorgeous fabric and I have more projects to show from the remainder of the line.  I have been hoarding collecting all the Flower Sugar fabrics from previous lines and I must say, they compliment each other wonderfully.
