Quilt Along

I decided to make block two last night.  I broke my self-imposed rule of not quilting at night because when I do I make mistakes.  I must have been super tired last night.  When I finished block #2 of Donna's Quilt Along, it was way bigger than it should have been.  When I squared it down, I lost some points.  I had used some of my precious Japanese novelty prints and really didn't want to waste them. So, I made a very freeing decision, I'm keeping the block the way it is.  Why do we, quilters, put such stress on ourselves?  This quilt is not going to competition, will not be featured in a magazine and would still be loved by someone if I gifted it.  Truth be told, I am making it for me this time around, so I've decided to lighten up!  I love the two blocks together.  I'm having fun, that's the best part!

Blessings,

  1. Good decision! No matter how long we have been at this, we have blocks that turn out less perfect than we would like. This is a true "Sewn with Grace" block in that you are giving yourself the grace to say, good enough! It is lovely.

  2. Great choice Renee. Truth be told, I wouldn't quilt at all if I had to make everything perfect. There, I said it out loud. I see the imperfections as I make the blocks, but once it's all together all I see is a quilt I love, and believe me, I've had some MAJOR imperfections! Your quilts are always, always beautiful, I would take one any time, and I wouldn't get the magnifier out to check the points, I would just love it!

  5. oh, it's so cute Renee! I agree with the other comments too. Especially since this one is for you, just enjoy :) I brake the "quilting law" all the time because 9 times out of 10 I don't square up my blocks. I just eyeball things. The only exception is for custom orders. Then I'm such a perfectionist I drive myself crazy. I can't wait to see more of your blocks. I love all of your novelty prints!

  9. I had issues with mine being too big, too. I am with you, I decided to not let it bug me that I will lose some points. The block is still cute!
