Apples in a Row
I took some time yesterday and this morning to get caught up on the Row-A-Long quilt by Lori Holt. This is row 4 - a row of adorable apples. You can get the instructions for this block here. No matter how long I've been quilting, I always learn something new and this was no exception. The importance of pressing was paramount with this block. I also didn't pay attention to the direction of the white squares on the leaves so that my leaves are going in a different direction than Lori's. In this instance it is not a big deal, but for another quilt it could have resulted in a lot of ripping out. It's always a good idea to sew one and check it against the pattern to see if it's correct.
When I started this project, I decided not to use any red in my quilt, focusing on pink in place of the red. As much as I tried, I didn't like making a row of apples without having red ones. So I found some red fabric in a complimentary shade (Celebration by Brenda Riddle) to add in. Now I have to be sure to place it strategically in the rest of the quilt so that it blends well with the overall look. I like the red, it gives a bit of pop to the softness of the overall look. I also had some fun adding Lori's gray words from her new Polka Dot Stitches line to one of the apple core blocks. View her line of fabric here. It's so good to be caught up today!

Hi Renee, What a fun pattern this is! I also like the addition of the words. I too can't wait to see it when it is finished.ReplyDelete

REALLY love those apples!!ReplyDelete
Your addition of red is just right...
Your colors are spot on...I love her word fabric and bought it in every color...It has such distinction when used in patchwork. Smiles..ReneeReplyDelete
Cute as can be!ReplyDelete
that is the most adorable quilt patternReplyDelete
i have ever seen. you are SO talented.
Your quilt will be gorgeous!ReplyDelete
I love the fabrics you are using! The quilt is so scrappy that it won't matter at all about the leaves going in different directions :) I love the text fabric on the apple cores too. When I was sewing the apple row, I remember concentrating really hard, making sure everything was just so! I love lori's row along!ReplyDelete
I love this row of apples - especially the fabrics you are using. blessings, marleneReplyDelete
So cute and so appropriate for the season. I agree, needed to be at least a couple of red apples!!!!ReplyDelete
Great apples! This will look fantastic...ReplyDelete
Love them! The next row debuts tomorrow I think!ReplyDelete
Your apples are so adorable! Love the touch of red and I need to remember what you said of making sure there are touches evenly dispersed throughout. Glad you have the caught up feeling:)ReplyDelete
Such sweet apples - can't wait to get started on Row 5 now!ReplyDelete
I love the uniqueness of each row and, you're right. I love softer colors as well but the red does add a little bit of pop.ReplyDelete
I did the same thing that you did; my leaves are going the wrong way but no big deal it works just as well, but yes I told myself to start paying more attention a wouldn't like to rip some other things with such a little pieces I wouldn't like to start all over on something else. Is a good thing that Lori is so detailed, is kind of she is right there with you holding your hand. Never the less your row is gorgeous!ReplyDelete
