No Idle Hands

I've had a yearning as of late to pick up my knitting needles again.  I usually don't start a project until I have another one done but I'm finding that I like knitting a bit, sewing a bit and reading a bit lately.  This wrap caught my eye and I thought I would try my hand at the diamond pattern.  I'm finding that as I count the various stitches in each row that I'm enjoying the rhythm of the knitting and it helps keep my mind focused in the present and not off in the "what if's" a mind can conjure up when feeling anxious.

When I grow weary of the counting then I'm back at my sewing machine working on the cloth napkins for Chelsea's wedding rehearsal dinner.  This is pretty mindless sewing and I like it right now.  The colors are very soothing and the lavender water I press with is calming as well.

I'm also trying to work my way through this book.  It is not normally something I would pick up but since the movie is coming out next month I thought I would see what all the fuss was about.  I'm finding it entertaining as I have just finished her journey through Italy and the "eat" part of the book.  I'm not sure, overall, how I feel about it yet and was wondering if any of you have read it and how you feel about it?  Also, do you keep more than one project going at a time?

I want to let you know of a giveaway, Beverly at My Sew Sweet Studio has made a beautiful tote bag and is giving it away in celebration of her 100th post. Stop by for a visit!

  1. I haven't read the book and only just saw the teasers for the movie so no help there but...more than one project oh my, oh my. Yes, it's rare that I don't have more than one going at a time. Startings the easy part it's the finishing that gets me. I am a UFO queen. Blessings, Patty

  2. I was just searching for the book at my library with no luck. Curious because of the movie. Do I work on more than one project at once?! Oh goodness yes, the real question is can I finish one before I see something else I want to try! The shawl looks like it is going to be beautiful and the stack of pretty napkins make me want to start (yet another) project.

  3. Your knitting is just beautiful. That is a craft that I have adored for years and have never tried. I know what you mean about going between projects. I have two quilts I am working on. One is a string and the other hexagon. I like the hand work with the hexagons, but since I have not made a string quilt before, it has been fun putting all the different strips of fabric together. :o)
I saw the trailer for the movie. I am unfamiliar otherwise. Do let us know how you like it. :o)
    What is lavender water?

  4. Oh Goodness...You know me, always more than one project going at one time! I do have a three project limit though. If I get to three, I have to finish ALL three before I start anything new. It keeps me accountable. I'm not sure who I am accountable to, but I am. :)

Chelsea's fabric is Beautiful!!! She is so blessed to have you working on her wedding.

P.S. I started knitting again too.

  5. I've not read the book, probably won't. Usually, though, I find the book is a lot better than the movie.

As for starting more than one project, oh yeah. I don't like to do that, but I find myself doing it anyway. Right now, I'm holding off starting anything new, as we're about to hit the road for a bit.

Oh! I'm having a "Simple Pleasures" blog party on Thursday, unless I screwed something up with Mr. Linky (ha). Hope you'll join me.

  6. I didn't know there was a book, but saw the trailer on Friday night at the movies. It looks good.
Think I'll go to the bookstore today. I love a good book.
I haven't knitted in years, but I can see why you wanted to...the shawl is beautiful.
I always have several projects going at a time. I get bored easily, so when I'm tired of one, I move on. I eventually finish and when I have a deadline, of course that gets priority.

  9. I have been dying to stop and make some wonderful cloth napkins and even knit again. Need to put them on the list...I was taught not to have idle hands...and now that life is a little slower I see I need to return to that...I would love to cross stitch again!
