I traveled to see my parents. After 52 years of living at the same address, they have decided to sell their home and move to something much more manageable. I knew this time was coming and it makes sense. It's good to do this now while they can and not because they have to. As I slept in my childhood room I was flooded with memories and emotions. I took these pictures in my Mother's beautiful garden. Her garden has always been a place of enchantment for me. There is always a surprise around each corner, from a blooming rose to a wee fairy tucked in just the right place. Some of the flowers came from my Grandmother's homes, the tall hollyhocks and the climbing roses. I will be heading back next week for a major moving sale and hope to take many more pictures then.
I also helped host a wedding shower and had a lot of fun making mini cherry pies in mason jars for the dessert. A very easy recipe from Pinterest. I was able to deliver a gift to my friend, Debbie. Her husband is a beekeeper (among many other things!) and I had so much fun knitting this tea cozy for her. Her reaction was priceless and I would do it again just to see her face. I love giving gifts to others, just for the joy it brings.
I hope you've had a good week. We've had rain and sunshine, hot and mild days. I could take this weather all year. Spring is my favorite season. Blessings!
Smiles,

Your parents have such a lovely garden & how great that you have happy memories of it! I love the look of those cherry pies & I have a similar pattern to your tea cozy which is equally lovely. I plan on knitting it once I have gained enough experience. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfectly enchanting garden! It must be very hard for all of you to move from such a beautiful place with so many memories. I would love to try the pie in a jar recipe, and the tea cozy you made is so adorable! I love bee themed items. Your friend must have been thrilled:>)
ReplyDeleteI recently packed up my parent's home and it was amazing how much there was to decide on. Blessings to you and your parents as you walk through this. It was so nice that you could still visit your childhood bedroom - not too many of us can do that! The tea cozy is oh so sweet - I just love it. If you could share where you got your pattern, I plan to beg my daughter to make me one. ;-)
ReplyDeleteIts always hard to give up your home for what ever reason, hang on to all those wonderful memories they can't be taken away. I love the idea of a pie in a jar and the tea cosy is delightful.
ReplyDeleteWonderful post! Love the pictures and the writing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful garden, with so many precious memories for you. :) I thought your little cherry pies were so cute, I would like to make those! I think I pinned them too! :) That is such an adorable tea cozy!! It's so pretty and cute, and perfect for your friend!! And a beautiful close up of your place mats that you've made, just gorgeous color!! :) Wishing you a lovely and long weekend!! xo Holly
ReplyDeleteRenee, I know what you feel like about the house. My Grandad died recently and we are having to clear his house. His garden was idyllic as we grew up though it is overgrown like the secret garden now- I walked down yesterday and remembered so much!! 52 years is more than my 33 though! X
ReplyDeleteHe was a bee keeper too! X your cosy us gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteMy mother, who is widowed, has talked about selling her house. I always try to encourage her to do what is best for her while crying in private. So many memories! Go to You Tube and put on Miranda Lambert's The House That Built Me. Prepare to bawl.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tea pot cover!
Your mother's garden is indeed beautiful. The arched trellis gate with the birdbath and flowers around are especially pretty together.
ReplyDeleteIf your parents allow you to, why not dig up some of her plants and transplant them to your garden? Then they can be living heirlooms where you are.
Thanks for sharing your mother's beautiful garden. I wish you all the best as you help them to prepare for their move. I work for the library and deliver books to homebound customers. I often see times when people are forced to move, it is much harder. I love the tea cozy too!
ReplyDeleteYour parents have a lovely and thoughtful daughter. How kind of you to help them make this move less stressful by helping with the moving sale. My daughters have offered to help us after school is out (both are teachers) to begin sorting through things in our garage. It's a job that has been put off far too long and just seems overwhelming. . . .love your blog, the garden, and the tea cozy. Keep us posted on the move.
ReplyDeleteHappy Spring!
Nancy
your mom's garden really is amazing!! hope the sale and move go smoothly!!!
ReplyDeleteA few years ago we moved our mom from her home of 55 years ... we had to have FOUR sales to whittle down things to a manageable load. She has thrived in her new environment and while there are days she wishes she was back in the house she is grateful to have had such a blessed life. Your mom's garden is GORGEOUS ... thanks for sharing so I could "take a walk through it". Linda
ReplyDeleteI would love to have a garden like your mother's! I am going to pin it for inspiration.
ReplyDeleteLove this garden. Sad to leave such a long time home but they will have many new experiences to enjoy.
ReplyDeleteYour mom's garden is beautiful. So sad they had to make that choice but nice that is what they want to do.
ReplyDeleteThe pies are so cute.
Love the beehive tea cozy. Very cute.
