A Snowy Day

I feel like I should start today's post by saying some thing like "Today we bring you the latest from the North Pole..."  I like many of you are covered in snow and freezing temps.  The wind is so strong at our house that it sounds like pieces of the house are being ripped off.  The last picture shows you the drift of snow on the sliding doors.  It's pretty, but a little unsettling too.  I get claustrophobic if I look at it too long.

I spent the last two days of being house bound taking down all the Christmas decorations (sniff) and cooking up a storm.  We've had pork chops with apples and carmalized onions, beef tenderloin with cheesy potatoes and bread pudding for dessert, seven bean soup with ham and pork carnitas, my favorite recipe currently.  I've got beef stew simmering in the crock pot as I type this.  I don't know what it is about cold weather that makes me want to nest like Little House on the Prairie.

I finished the last four blocks in Donna's quilt along and redid one of the blocks I made earlier because I didn't like how it looked with the rest of them.  This week we will get sashing instructions.  I'm thinking I may have to go with a solid for sashing since I used so many different background fabrics.  I let the prints dictate the background, and I'm glad I did, but it makes sashing that much harder.  In the evenings when the boys have been watching football, I've been crocheting dishcloths.   It's been a long time since I've crocheted anything since knitting is my usual preference but I've really enjoyed it.

I have some major cutting to do today for a queen size wedding quilt, so I better get to it.  Stay warm and safe, friends!

Smiles,

  1. Well, we don't have the snow cover (as much as you have), here in S.E.MN (due West of LaCrosse,WI) but the cold is a bit intimidating!!! I am now so hungry I may have to raid the kitchen!!! Your cooking/baking is amazing!!!! Pork roast + vegis in the cast iron Dutch oven for supper tonight. Baking bread tomorrow. Quilting as soon as I vacate this chair!!!!!! Hugs.......

  5. Oh yes, we are snowed in. In fact Earl was supposed to fly to Texas this morning for a meeting and the flights were cancelled. Your blocks look gorgeous, I just started a simple quilt for Victoria and can't get the blocks to line up. I can't find my 1/4 inch foot and I will probably need to order another. In the meantime I'm winging it and doing the best I can. SOME day, my quilts may look as good as the ones you and Trish make. Lol

  6. Live in Traverse City (MI) and we're sharing your snow and cold ... right now it is MINUS 30 degrees with the wind chill. All cabinet doors in the kitchen/bathroom are open to let warmth in to avoid frozen pipes. Cooked up a storm (pardon the pun) today as well ... smoked turkey and wild rice soup, salmon with pineapple salsa for dinner (thought it would make us think of the tropics). Tomorrow it is meatloaf, mashed potatoes and putting together another pot of soup or chili ... I'm gaining too much weight from this storm! LOL Your blocks are lovely ... your taste in colors is "softer" than mine ... I like Civil War and reproduction fabrics usually. Stay warm!

  9. Cute blocks, Renee. I'm jealous of your snowed in time, but not so much of all that snow and cold. I won't complain about an overcast sky tomorrow. Ohhh! to have time to crochet. Your dishcloths are too pretty to use. Love the colors.
