Being Mary in a Martha World

My favorite Snowman wondering where is the snow?

I feel like I've been running a marathon since the Candlelight Dessert last week.  Not only am I playing catch up, I'm playing catch in the moment and catch forward.  Know what I mean?  This week I hosted my annual Bible Study Christmas Brunch, attended the annual Girlfriends Christmas Party and did way too much internet shopping because I don't have time to physically go to the store.

A bit of porch decorating

Today new windows are being installed in my house.  I have a wedding to go to tonight, three quilts to bind before Sunday, an empty refrigerator and my son is on his way home from college.  All these things are good in an of themselves (except for the empty refrigerator), it's just when it's all happening at the same time I start to feel like I'm standing in one spot twirling.

These two are torturing me to read them

I'm sorry for complaining.  I just knew that you would understand.  As Mom's, wives and friends, our plate is full and it is good, but I need to work on that balance thingy again.  Above all, I need to be thankful.  Thankful to the Lord for the gift of His one and only Son.  In a Martha world, I need to be more like Mary today (Luke 10:38).

Joyfully,

  2. I hear ya, Girl! This time of year goes by in such a whirlwind, we have to remind ourselves to take time to smell the roses (or holly).:)

  3. I think many of us will relate to this post. Oh boy, I feel for you! I don't know if this will help, but when I am overwhelmed I just do what my brother learned in AA. . . . Do the next right thing. Then I do it. Then I do the next right thing, and the next, until I can feel in control again and like I am making progress and the light is at the end of the tunnel. Thank you as always for the wonderful post. I always enjoy your posts. Keep 'em coming!

  4. My new favorite saying. Thank you for the simplicity. Do you think Martha squeezes church in on Sunday? We have been at advent services on Wednesday too. Our Jerod has been the Acolyte. It is my favorite season. I have the sweetest pictures of them lighting candles. It will all get done...have faith...Renee

  7. I agree, things can spin out of control very quickly this time of year! As much as I love giving handmade gifts, I'm still getting used to working full time and I let myself off the hook this year. I don't need the pressure and if people get less....well how much do any of us really need anyway? I'm not accepting invitations or planning any events until Christmas is past. The season has sped by too quickly as it is, I'm just looking for a moment to reflect and enjoy the season. I hope your next week is more relaxed!

  9. I have been having a very Martha week. And today, when I was headed into a nasty migraine, I remembered that it had been too many days since I had a quiet time in the Word. So I made my coffee and read the Bible. Then after finishing some Christmas presents, delivering and mailing some, and several other tasks, I decided to grab my 20 year old to take to the mall. We didn't shop. Instead, I treated the two of us to short chair massages. Oh my! It was such a blessing and very reasonable. I was able to get a grip and relax. I didn't get everything done today. My house is still rather messy. But I relaxed for the first time all week and it was so worth it.
I hope to accomplish all my tasks. But I have to remember, that rest is an important task too.

  10. These are crazy days, I couldn't agree more!
I just can't get past the fact that you can bind three quilts by Sunday.
    That is truly amazing!
The empty fridge could be your downfall though. Hungry boys are a force to be reckoned with. :)
