On This Hot Summer Day

It is hot, hot, hot here.  It's still better than snow, so I'm not complaining too much.  I'm drinking ginger-peach iced tea and staying inside.  I picked up this book the other day.  I've seen the movie but never read it.  One is never too old for the adventures of Anne.

After I laid these blocks out together I noticed a little imbalance.  Too much white and not enough contrast.  I do like them though and will just add a bit more color to a few of the backgrounds with the next blocks.  Today's pattern calls for paper piecing so I need to hone my skills.  When you don't practice paper piecing on a regular basis, you tend to forget.  At least I do anyway.

The garden is still quite colorful, though the air is so hot I don't know how they don't wilt.  I'm wilting for them!  Off to quilt!

Smiles,

  2. The quilt fabric is lovely, so soft and pretty. I haven't read that book either although I did see the movie many years ago. The flowers are so colorful. They say "summer".

  3. I just *adore* Anne!! :o) I have the books and the movies. A true favorite. Enjoy your summer reading. :o)
Your blocks are gorgeous Renee. :o) You are right, as you add more contrast, they will all balance out nicely. You are going to have a beautiful quilt. And my best of wishes on your paper piecing. :o)
I feel your pain with the heat. Shewie! Looks like another day indoors down here too ... which is great because I am working on my Shortcake quilt, using the Ruby fabric. Love that!
Have a wonderful day friend. Loved chatting with you. :o)

  4. It's a good week to stay inside and quilt:>) Oh how I love that Flower Sugar fabric! I have a few pieces that I still haven't gathered the courage to cut yet, but your blocks are so beautiful it makes me want to use them. Maybe I should finish the three quilts I have sarted first?

  5. Oh, I love Anne of Green Gables. There is a whole set of books, I read many years ago. May be time to revisit her.
Your quilt is beautiful and I am so inspired to start one too. You will have no trouble adding more color. I haven't paper pieced in a while either.
It's hot here too, though we probably don't have the humidity you do. Sewing for me today too.

  7. I love the PBS series from the 80's, but admit I have never read the books although I'm an avid reader! I'll have to put them on my Kindle!
The blocks are wonderful. You're right, you can balance them out with other blocks. It will be great!

  10. Renee, these blocks are wonderful. While I understand that in pieced form they may look like they could use more contrast, these are exactly the kinds of blocks that give the quilting a chance to be a good partner--and when patchwork and quilting both shine, that's a glorious quilt!

  11. YOur blocks look like your garden. I think if you make some blocks with more colored fabrics those will fit right in.
