A Quilt and A Question...

My "Summer's End" quilt came back from the quilter this week.  I so enjoyed binding this quilt.  It's already in the hands of the dear girl who requested it for her birthday.  Don't you love the joy on a persons face when they open a quilt? I now have to decide what project to do next and I think I'll put off a few UFO's to work with Red Rose Farm.  I have a question for you today, when you embroider kitchen towels, how many strands of floss do you use?

Joyfully,

  1. I usually use 2 strands of embroidery floss. But when I want the item to stand out more - I use three strands.
(. . . & since if will be washing your dishtowel - just be sure to use a colorfast floss & not one of the overdyed ones - as there colors can run.) Can't wait to see what you do!

  2. It depends on the weave of the towels you are embroidering. I bought some of those kitchen towels at IKEA (white with a red stripe). The thread count on these are low so I used the full thickness of the thread, otherwise the thread wouldn't hold.

  3. Hi Renee! I use three so it stands out. But, I usually use white flour sack towels and they are kind of thin. Your latest quilt is beeeeeautiful! As always. :) Have a happy Wednesday!

  4. I have a towel and pattern than I want to embroider, so I'm interested in what your readers are saying about the number of threads. I tend to always use two strands on any embroidery project anyway. Looking forward to seeing what you are working on.

  6. the quilt is beautiful. how wonderful to make and give such a beauty. I use however many strands look good....if it doesn't seem quite right after I start, I'll either add strands to get it to the look I like or I'll take away strands if it looks too bold. Have fun finishing up projects.

  7. what a beautiful quilt, I love the colors!

I have 0 embroidery skills but have recently picked up some dish towels and have been contemplating attempting some embroidery embellishment on them. I'm interested to see what the consensus is on how many strands to use

  8. I have always used two strands for everything, I think three would be fine though if you need a bit more oomph. Love the quilt, and yes, I love the look of happiness when I give a quilt as a gift!

  9. Lovely quilt.

I use three strands of floss. I like the finished results much more than using less. My opinion.

I have never embroidered on dishtowels (just other projects), but it looks like everyone else has answered your question...:)
