Time for Chores

I have spent such a great amount of time working on wedding details that I have fully neglected my home to the point of being embarrassed around my own family.  So today I am spending a good deal of time cleaning.

When I was growing up my Mom always set aside one day a week to clean house.  Try as I may, I just can't discipline myself to do it.  I wait until I can't stand it any longer and then I frantically clean.  My trick is to keep the house free of clutter, it looks clean that way.

I know I just make more work for myself.  Once the cleaning is done, I'm so pleased with the way everything looks that I tell myself I'll do it again next week, that it won't be so much work, but then I'm back at my sewing machine forgetting all about the little talk I had with myself.  I hope that you are doing something fun today, instead of cleaning!

Joyfully,

  1. You could always move the coffee making equipment into the craft room and not use the other rooms...lol...!!! Happy crafting, Jenny

  3. Same here! But, I still have smaller kids at home. Now, I'm training them to at least pick up their stuff. I'm cleaning today as well. Enjoy! ;)

  4. I am so with you Sista. I keep committing and re-committing to that Once a Week Cleaning- but, there I go...finding something more exciting to do.

  5. Oh, I can so relate! Someone gave me a small sign years ago that really said it best: "cleaning the house while the children are growing is like shoveling the snow while it's still snowing." My kids like to quote it when I ask them to help clean! Yes, I say but we don't want to live in a pig sty!! Happy cleaning!

  6. I know just what you mean, Renee. I would much rather be sewing or playing with grandkids, or....anything but housework. Good for you for catching up on that area of your life. I need inspiration to do that. You are right, it does feel so good to have it all clean.

  7. I've never made that commitment. I guess I knew I would never keep it. ;-) I do keep it picked up, free of clutter mostly. The deep cleaning happens little by little. I guess it never is all clean all at once unless company is coming! Maybe I need to invite someone over soon. . .

    Hugs,

  8. Oh my gosh...I do the same thing. And I have been cleaning up a storm today too! I love the way everything smells when you clean!
I so need to get my sewing machine out and do a couple of things on it but I just can't seem to get motivated to do so. :0)

  10. Those photos are wonderful! Love the soap one especially. I'm not one for much "deep cleaning," as I've heard it called. Just keep everything dusted and vacuumed and picked up and that makes me happy. When I worked 40-hours a week, I finally put myself on a schedule and posted it on the frig. Did certain things on certain days, and left the weekend wide open to enjoy. Those days are long gone, but I remember how much it helped.

  12. I am just like you, I do a big cleaning and then I let it go until it gets pretty messy! How do some women keep it clean all the time? Maybe they don't sew?
