Pruning

The photo above shows what my rose bush will look like this summer.  I remember when my FIL handed me a little plant in a McDonalds paper cup.  He explained to me that he had made a cutting from a rose bush and nutured it into the tiny plant that it now was.  I remember thinking at the time that it probably wouldn't survive but put it in the ground anyway.  Five years later, it's trying desperately to get out of the fence.

Right now the rose bush is sprouting it's new leaves and a few days ago I undertook the challenge of pruning all of the dead wood away.  It took me quite some time.  I also decided to move four other rose bushes and pruned them down to barely a foot so I could move them more easily.  Needless to say, when all was said and done, I was bloodied and scratched but the four are thriving in their new spots and the red rose above is greening out and will have it's best showing to date.

I was studying God's Word this morning and looking out the window at the rose bush.  I was feeling very convicted by some of the things I was reading.  I began to think of the similarities between the pruning of roses and God's pruning of us.  Just as I cut the dead wood away so that the rose can grow stronger, become fuller and reach it's potential, God does the same for me.  His Word reveals areas where I need pruning in my life, my thoughts, and my actions.  He pricks my concsious with areas that need the dead wood taken away so that I can become stronger in Him, fuller and reach the potential that He intended for me.  It's not easy and sometimes it hurts, but in the end if I can blossom like that rose bush for Him, it is all worth it.

"Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting."
Psalm 139:23-24

My Fruit Necklace

I always believed that my Grandma was a bit on the eccentric side.  She wore some interesting outfits, various wigs and some funky jewelry.  My college roomie, and bestest bud Amy, got a big kick out of this fruit necklace she wore, as did I.  Limes, lemons, strawberries and oranges interspersed with red beads - all in plastic.

Grandma passed away when I was in college and two of these necklaces were found with her jewelry.  I promptly passed one on to Amy.  When I was swapping out frocks on my dress form today I remembered I still had the necklace.  It goes well with the homemade cotton dress, don't you agree?

I love this apron I so generously recieved in an apron swap a couple of months ago.  I would dress like this every day if I could.  Blessings!

Sunday Scripture

"For this reason, ever since I heard about your
faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the
saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you,
remembering you in my prayers.  I keep asking
that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the
glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of
wisdom and revelation, so that you may know
him better.  I pray also that the eyes of your heart
may be enlightened in order that you may
know the hope to which he has called you,
the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,
and his incomparably great power for us who believe."

Ephesians 1:13-19

Wedding Wednesday

Welcome to Wedding Wednesday!  Starting this month I will be featuring wedding ideas found on wedding websites and blogs.  May begins my busy wedding season as an event coordinator and I thought it would be fun to share wedding tips and ideas with you.

This weeks photos come from the blog One Lovely Day.  Here you can find fabulous pictures of weddings and all kinds of ideas for your own events.

These ideas and tips can be used for all kinds of events, from weddings to reunions, showers to graduation parties.  With just alittle tweaking, each can be customized to your event.

Wedding sites play host to many a creative soul.  I enjoy looking at them for inspiration, even sewing inspiration.  Enjoy!

From Bits and Pieces

I completed another cover for my business card holder.  This one I made using many different scraps of vintage linens.  I used the same blue feed sack fabric I used on my "Junk" bag shown below.

It goes with the bag rather nicely.  I love using bits of this and pieces of that to create something functional.

When I add the Ipod case that Renee sent me, I feel like I have a complete ensemble.  What are you working on today?

Sunday Scripture

"But because of his great love for us, God, who
is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ
even when we were dead in transgressions-
it is by grace you have been saved."

Picnic

I continue to make progress on my list of quilts.
There are things I wish to show you but can't yet.

A dutiful eye keeps watch over my progress,
looking ever so lovely in her wicker chair.

This quilt is called, "Picnic".
It's from "Scrap-Basket Sensations"
by Kim Brackett

Enjoy this Saturday doing something you love!
