Snow Day!

My highschool daughter walked around singing the snowday song she learned back in middle school yesterday.  Sure enough, she climbed in bed with me this morning letting me know that school was officially closed and then promptly went back to sleep.  I had to go take a peek.  This was the view out my front window when the sun was coming up.  I love the soft glow from the vintage nativity that a friend found for me a couple of weeks ago.  I need to build a creche but that will have to wait until the summer.

This is the view from my three-season porch.  The garden is under ice and snow, taking a long rest before next spring's awakening.  I sometimes wonder if the flowers need the rest because it takes so much energy to be spectacular for months on end.

I thought you might like a peek at the porch decorations while I was out here.  The Christmas decorations are pretty simple in this room.  Most things come inside for the winter because of the cold and moisture.  A little tree in a red pot brightens up one corner.

Floral pillows with tulle and silver ornaments give it just a bit of sparkle next to the church I covered with buttons one year.

A bit of greenery reminds me of the great flowers of the summer and what awaits in the spring.

The colors of the wicker furniture really pop against the white of the snow outside.  Winters are l-o-n-g in Michigan so we need all the "pop" we can get!

A large Christmas ball that my Mom made hangs from the ceiling fan.  Just looking at it has me wanting to go make one.  Today sounds like a good day for baking, sewing and wrapping gifts.  I wonder if I can coax a certain helper out of bed.  Probably not, isn't that what snow days are all about when you are young?  Blessings!

Joyfully,
