Monday's Thoughts

This morning finds me listening to the sound of the furnace.  I broke down last night and turned it on.  The thermostat read 59 degrees inside the house and we couldn't take it anymore.  Upon awakening, the temperature outside registered at 37 degrees and so with the sound of the furnace, fall officially starts at our house.

Firing up the furnace signals the fall planting season.  Time to visit the nursery down the road and pick out all the pretties to brighten my day next spring.  The possibilites are many but I know I will remain true to pink tulips, purple, white and pink hyacinth, and a variety of daffodils.

While I'm at the nursery I will also pick up paperwhite bulbs for forcing.  They will be planted mid to late November in various containers ready to bloom during the holiday season.  They are so easy to force and smell heavenly.

My thoughts keep coming back to Max lately.  I remember how much he loved fall.   There was always new smells in the leaves.  I'd ask him if he was getting the "news of the day".  I love this picture of him taken last year, such a handsome fellow.  Summer is soon but a memory, as well as our dearly departed pets, but thank you Lord for the blessing they both were.

Sunday Scripture

"As long as the earth endures,
seedtime and harvest,
cold and heat,
summer and winter,
day and night
will never cease."

On The Outside

As you may remember from previous posts, fall colors are not my colors.  If I could paint fall pink, I would.  However, I do love the fall colors outside.

Such a depth of color and texture in fall.  Mixing the plants with the pumpkins, gourds and ugly fruit really speak of the season.

Fall has come-a-calling and I'm ready, atleast on the outside!  Have a great day!

Quilt Weather

The weather here in Michigan has been predictably unpredictable.  Some days find us barely reaching the 60's and other days we're peeling the layers off because it's gotten up in to the 80's.  Such is fall here in the northern states.

The last few nights have been two quilt nights.  I can't bear to turn the heat on yet.  Nights fall to the low 40's and high 30's and if you have to get up during the night, you do it quickly!

So I've been pulling the quilts out, deciding which ones to use, enjoying all the memories each one brings.  Some quilts I made and some, like this baby quilt, was found out treasure hunting.  Oh, the joy a quilt can bring.  Have a blessed day!

Monday finds me...

Playing with Red Rose Farm,

looking at fall through Morning Glory vines,

loving the way my neighbors tree is changing
from the middle,

appreciating the few flowers that remain,

heading back to Red Rose Farm!

Sunday Scripture

"Why do you call me Lord, Lord, and do not do what I say?
I will show you what he is like who comes to me and
hears my words and puts them into practice.  He is
like a man building a house, who dug down deep and
laid the foundation on rock.  When a flood came, the
torrent struck that house but could not shake it,
because it was well built.  But the one who hears
my words and does not put them into practice is
like a man who built a house on the ground without
a foundation.  The moment the torrent struck that
house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete."

Luke 6:46-49

A Quilt and A Question...

My "Summer's End" quilt came back from the quilter this week.  I so enjoyed binding this quilt.  It's already in the hands of the dear girl who requested it for her birthday.  Don't you love the joy on a persons face when they open a quilt? I now have to decide what project to do next and I think I'll put off a few UFO's to work with Red Rose Farm.  I have a question for you today, when you embroider kitchen towels, how many strands of floss do you use?

Red Rose Monday

It is so quiet here today.  I can hear a dog barking somewhere down the street and a lone bird makes a call every now and then.

Fall will make its arrival this week, but here in Michigan that process started a couple of weeks ago.  I'm enjoying the goldfinches in the garden.  Can you see it?  Click on the picture.

Red Rose Farm arrived on Saturday.  My heart is all a-flutter.  The colors are so clear and bright.

I do have plans for this beautiful fabric which involves some vintage dishtowel embroidery.  Can't wait to show you!

Saturday's mail also brought this book which I've been on the hunt  for.  Published in Australia, it has barely made it into the states yet.  I was happy to find one on Etsy.  Aren't those fabric buckets adorable?

While I'm playing on Red Rose Farm today, what will you be doing?

Hugs,
